Our Organization

Background

TACF Founder and President - Chuck Sun, an Engineering Professional, has an illustrious career of almost 38 years retired from Boeing. He planned to travel and do community work in his spare time. He saw the worsening safety trend in February 2021 and recognized his beloved community was faced with increased hate crimes aimed at Asians, rising assaults and robberies in his community, and home break-ins in the neighborhood. In addition, there was a string of purses snatching at the supermarkets and parking lots, forceful removal of handbags at stores like one bakery on Colima Road. The frequency of occurrence has increased to a point it affected our daily lives and activities in our community. Chuck felt strongly that something must be done to reduce the negative impact in our community.

Chuck discussed the matters with his good friend Alice Hsiao and they concluded that they would do something to take back the community. They called on their friends and together they formed a community group consisting of mostly local people in early March 2021. The group first started with about 30+ friends and began to collect signatures at the 99 Ranch Market to voice people’s concern about the safety of the community is facing. Chuck and the team also met with Janice Hahn, our County Supervisor to express concerns about the increased crimes in our communities and offered some possible suggestions for her to consider. This was the beginning of our very first attempt to counter crimes in our community.

Milestone

·We officially started in early March as a grass-roots group with 30+ friends, and it grew to about 900 affiliates today. In pursuing community safety, our group has been very active.

·On March 18, 2021, more than half of the board members participated L.A. Hate Crime Summit meeting hosted by Sheriff Alex Villanueva. We are against discrimination and advocate racial equality.

·On March 21, 2021, we had a very constructive meeting with County Supervisor Hahn, there were suggestions that included installing surveillance cameras on Colima Road to catch criminals. County Supervisor Hahn agreed with the ideas and immediately went to work.

·On April 3 and 4, 2021, our group conducted an Anti-Crime outreach event at 99 Ranch Market to meet many community residents and to raise voices opposing proposition SB82.

·On April 5, 2021, in response to our proposition, County Supervisor Hahn authored Motions 5 (AAPI Initiative) and 55A (Cameras on Colima). Our Board Members were invited to speak in the public meeting to support both motions. In the end, we were thrilled to see both motions were passed.

·On July 21, 2021, to protect the safety of our Hacienda Heights members, we participated in the public meeting and openly opposed the homeless facility set up in the residential populated area. Because of the outcry from the community, the lease signing event for the facility was postponed and sent back to the School Board for reconsideration.

·On July 28, 2021, at the School Board meeting, we joined the rally with roughly 180 people at Stimson Learning Center. In the end, the School Board decided to reverse the decision and not lease the facility to the homeless organization. This decision is in the best interest of all Hacienda Heights residents.
